NOBARTV NEWS De Jong if he becomes a coach, Former Dutch National Team player Nigel de Jong made an interesting statement when he met with PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir. If he is trusted as the coach of the Indonesian National Team, de Jong said he would break through walls.
An iconic moment happened in 2010. At that time, Spain met the Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final which took place in South Africa. Spain's victory through Andres Iniesta's single goal was followed by a moment where Nigel de Jong, one of the Dutch players, kicked Xabi Alonso's chest. The moment went viral at the time and is often seen on social media today.
Years later, the player turned out to have a pretty flashy career. It is known that de Jong currently serves as the technical director of the KNVB aka the Dutch Football Federation. Other jobs also held by the former footballer who played as a defensive midfielder are Bein Sports pundits for the English Premier League, European Champions League, to Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
This strategic position at the KNVB made him meet with PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir. So, some time ago, Erick visited the Netherlands. In addition to meeting with Patrick Kluivert and his assistants, Erick also had the opportunity to have another meeting with foreign players, especially naturalized players who play in the Dutch League. Erick did not waste this opportunity. The General Chairman made a special visit to the KNVB headquarters. Previously, in 2024, KNVB representatives had visited Jakarta and met with PSSI. Therefore, this second meeting also resulted in several points of cooperation between the two parties.

Nigel de Jong, who was also present at the meeting, made a rather interesting statement. If he was chosen as the coach of the Indonesian National Team, de Jong said, he was ready to break through walls.
“I think it's a good idea to come here, because we have a lot of affection,” De Jong said during Erick Thohir's visit to the KNVB headquarters.
"If I were the coach and he [Erick] was my president, I would be ready to run through walls. I have confidence in this president and also the coaching team for them to achieve success with the Indonesian National Team," De Jong added.
On that occasion, de Jong also highlighted the important match of the Indonesian National Team in the near future. In a few moments, the Garuda squad is scheduled to play away to Australia's headquarters. The match is a continuation of the 2026 World Cup Qualification match for the Asian zone, third round of group C.
"It won't be easy, they [Indonesian National Team] are in a tough group, especially the first match, where they [Kluivert et al] have to travel to Australia. But, I believe they will be successful. So I will support them from afar here," said De Jong in closing.
