Former Breccite Stone Mining Area
Before becoming a leading tourist spot in Jogja, Tebing Breksi was a breccite mining area managed by the local community since the 80s. However, the mining was officially closed by the government in mid-2014.
The mining closure was carried out because according to the results of the study, the rocks in this area were the result of volcanic activity from the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano, therefore this location was then designated as a protected place so that mining activities had to stop.
After mining activities completely stopped, the local community 'transformed' the former mining area into a tourist area called Tebing Breksi, until finally Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono
Currently, Breksi Cliff has succeeded in becoming one of the leading tourist attractions in Jogja. Residents of the Dewi Sambi Tourism Village also feel the benefits of managing the Breksi Cliff tourism site.
Even though previously, this village was one of the poorest villages in Sleman, the benefits resulting from the management of Tebing Breksi tourism have succeeded in advancing the Dewi Sambi Tourism Village to being included in the 50 best tourist villages with an income of IDR 1 billion per year.
Becoming a Featured Tourist Tour with the Charm of Artistic Cliffs
Breksi Cliff has its own charm which makes it able to attract tourists to visit. One of them is the view of a cutting wall decorated with faults which looks artistic, a legacy of mining activities.
Another charm of Tenging Breksi that shines through clearly is when you see various artistic carvings created by several local artists. These works are amazing and you can find them on every cliff wall, such as carvings of various puppets, writings, and the most iconic carving is a large dragon statue.
Not only does it offer photo spots with carved backgrounds, at Tebing Breksi you can also take photos with several owls! There are six types of owls in the Tebing Breksi area, including two Sumatran Bubo, two Buffy Fish, and two Orienta Obay. Don't worry, the six owls are tame and well trained, so they won't be dangerous.
There are tourist jeeps at Breksi Cliff!
Breksi Tebing Park Tourist Destination provides jeep tour packages. This package offers a pleasant trip sensation. There are three routes offered, namely short trip, medium trip, and long trip.
Interested visitors can start touring by jeep from 08.00 to 17.00 WIB. The management also serves reservations for special jeep tours in the morning at 05.00 WIB and in the evening at 18.00
